Preston School visit
January 14, 2010
Great gym–great group of kids and staff! PAC 4 is doing great work for their community and is helping send sick kids to cancer camp!
Preston students press the comment box below to tell me your favorite part of the presentation. (sorry pic came out a little blurry -video on YouTube under “willieswagon” looks better.)

Hi Gary this is Cole Ringen thank you for visiting us at school. I enjoy writing and drawing and I thought your book was good. I thought you might give me some tips for writing because you are good at it. Send back
Sincerely

I liked Frankie he was cute.
Cole, thanks for the note. I hope you like the website. Did you see the video of Frankie on Tv?
I’m glad you are interested in writing. I will give you a couple of writing tips that I think have helped me.
1) write about things you enjoy—camping, baseball, fishing, school J—that way you have fun as you learn the craft of writing.
2) Read what you write out loud so you can hear the way it reads. That way you can change the parts that seem awkward.
3) Be ready to make changes. It’s important to start with a rough draft (the first story quickly put on paper), then go back and make changes in your story and characters. I changed some of my chapters several times. Every time I would read a chapter—I would make some little (or big) changes until it was just how I wanted it.
4) Try to use humor. Its more fun to read if there are some funny parts throughout the story—even in a sad story.
If you would like more—just let me know!
Keep reading—-and writing.
Gary
She liked you too! You could tell by her tail wagging.
I like your books. I hope you keep sending kids to cancer camp. I think it is great that you are doing that. I am glad you picked my aunt Jen to be a pig! That was funny. My brother Andin wants to know how much your pig weighs? Thanks for coming to my school.
It’s always fun watching an adult do something different–like dancing around like a pig!!!! Your aunt was one of the best pig-dancers yet
Frankie weighs about 70-80 pounds. That can be a lot when she decides she wants me to carry her around at a school. She is on a well-balanced diet and should not get too much bigger. If she does–I’ll have to get a saddle and ride her around school (i’m joking, of course).
thanks for writing!
I am happy that you came to my school. I liked it when you told us the story of, A Hog Ate my Homework. It was fun when I danced with Frankie.
Where did you get Frankie?

Hayden—
Thank you for the nice comments about my book–and of course Frankie. What are your Guinea Pigs names?
Hudson–
I bet that is the first time you danced with a pig, right?
I am glad to hear you had fun. I did too.
