About the Author
Gary and Willie

Gary Metivier has always considered himself a storyteller.

His love of writing probably started in the eighth grade when he was supposed to be paying attention to his teacher, Mrs. Dillon.  Instead, he was creating fictional characters that went on adventures that pulled in his classmates who would whisper for the “next page” as they secretly passed his work from desk to desk when their teacher wasn’t looking.

The shy boy, who was the tenth of twelve children, had found a creative outlet and there was no looking back.  Years later, Gary is still telling stories as an award-winning television news reporter and anchor.  This is his first children’s book—at least the first one put on paper.

Gary lives in Davenport, Iowa with his wife Pam and two young sons, Josh and Adam.

Dedication

This book is for children who at times are too sick to be in school, but are always in our hearts.  It is also for those who help give them a smile when they need it most.
